Canadian Red Cross Marine Basic First Aid & CPR Course
This course includes First Aid & CPR Guidelines 2005 and meets OHS regulations for Basic First Aid

Overview of First Aid & CPR techniques with scenarios taken from the marine/fishing industry for individuals who need a
basic training level in First Aid & CPR for the marine industry. The course develops skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for Adults, CPR Level A, and other topics including choking, airway and breathing emergencies and prevention of disease transmission.
About this course

    * 6.5–8 hour course with flexible scheduling options
    * 3-year certification in Marine Basic First Aid & CPR Level A
    * Includes CPR Level A
    * Includes AED (Automated External Defibrillation) certification (where local legislation permits)
    * Conducted by a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor

Who should attend?

Any employee or those pursuing employment in the marine industry can attend this course. No pre-requisite or pre-course assignment is required.
Minimum course content

    * Assessment of needs of people and threats to own safety
    * Appreciation of body structure and function
    * Understanding immediate measures to be taken in cases of emergency
    * Apply resuscitation techniques
    * Control bleeding
    * Apply appropriate measures of basic shock management
    * Apply appropriate measures in the event of burns and scalds and incidents caused by electrical current
    * Rescue and transport a person
    * Improvise bandages and use materials in emergency kit
    * Written exam (min. passing grade 75%)

Marine Advanced First Aid & CPR

Canadian Red Cross Marine Advanced First Aid & CPR Course
This course includes First Aid & CPR Guidelines 2005 and meets OHS regulations for Standard First Aid

This course provides a comprehensive First Aid & CPR techniques with scenarios taken from the marine/fishing industry
for individuals who need a basic training level in First Aid & CPR for the marine industry. The course covers a variety of
topics from basic first aid such as cardiovascular emergencies for Adults, CPR Level A, and other topics including
choking, airway and breathing emergencies and prevention of disease transmission and progresses to in-depth ones
including sudden medical conditions and injuries to the head and spine.
About this course

    * 14–16-hour course with flexible scheduling options
    * 3-year certification (or as legislation dictates) in Marine Advanced First Aid & CPR Level A
    * Includes Level A CPR (CPR information is enhanced to meet specific workplace needs)
    * Includes AED (Automated External Defibrillation) certification (where local legislation permits)
    * Conducted by a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor
